About Me

Welcome to my blog, #!/usr/bin/mom!

I first started blogging 10 years ago, when I was a freshman in college. Back then I thought I was the last person on the planet to get a blog, but now I hardly ever meet anyone who's been around that long. I have had several different domains (and one free site), and many layouts since I started blogging. In 2002 I learned PHP and wrote my own blogging script, and in 2003 I bought my current domain. All of my entries dating back to the beginning are still here, but most of the older ones are hidden and password protected.

The name #!/usr/bin/mom is an allusion to the Linux filesystem (an homage to the geeky side of me), and to my being a proud mom. My husband loves to tell his friends my url and brag on what a geek his wife is, LOL.

That's me, Michelle, 28 years old. I am a Christian, loving wife to Mark and momma to 7 sweet babies. Our family lives in Houston, Texas, and I am definitely a Texas girl. I'm also a homemaker, a homeschooler, an avid reader, an amateur photographer, and a computer geek. I am not perfect, my life has not always been perfect, but it's a work in progress! In 2003 I became a Christian after my husband's leading, and now I seek my joy in His work, serving my family and raising my children "in the way they should go."

This is Mark, my wonderful husband of 7 years. Mark is a cowboy, a punk, a drinker, a music lover, a professional geek, and a strong Christian. (LOL, yes, he manages all of those things without contradiction!) He enjoys playing poker and World of Warcraft, and finding cool new Texas music bands. He's also a great family man, and loves to play with our children or take the whole family out to eat.

Aryanna, Click to view more.

Here is my beautiful oldest daughter Aryanna, 12 years old. (Technically she's my step-daughter, but I've raised her since she was 3.) Anna is a sweet big sister who dotes on her younger siblings, especially the two little sisters she prayed to get for so long! She's also a big helper around the house, and in her free time she enjoys all forms of artistic endeavor. Perhaps her favorite hobby is photography, a passion she shares with her grandmother and me.

Aoghdan, Click to view more.

This is my other oldest, Aoghdan, 11 years old. (Technically Aoghdan is my step-son, but I've raised him since he was 2.) Only 10 months and 1 day younger than his older sister, Aoghdan is both the quiet, stoic child, and the wild, rough and tumble little boy. He loves to build, to investigate the natural world or make science projects, and to read a good book.

Seamus, Click to view more.

Seamus, 7 years old, is my crazy middle son. Seamus was given the nickname "Tonka" at the tender age of 2 after ramming full speed into a wall and then giving barely a grunt before running off again. He's also an extremely bright child, who taught himself to multiply dinner sausages at five years old, and then began teaching himself to read.

If you can count, you can see that Mark and I had Seamus before we were married. I believe that even when we are living in sin, God is forever drawing us close to Him. St. Patrick in his confession said, "And He watched over me before I knew Him, and before I learned sense or even distinguished between good and evil." Seamus was the reason that Mark and I got married, which led to Mark teaching me to follow Christ. What a blessing!

Hamish, Click to view more.

Hamish, 6 years old, is my sweet, funny son. You can always count on Hamish for a smile and a laugh -- even when he's hurt himself it only takes one of mommy's "magic kisses" to get him laughing again.

Sinead, Click to view more.

Sinead, 5 years old, is my little princess. Sinead, also called Sissy, is the darling of her older sister and everyone's little sweetheart. She loves to have her hair done, her nails painted, and to don a pretty dress so we can all admire her, and never fails to pose for a photo. Sinead also enjoys emulating Aryanna, and playing big sister to Aisling and Diarmuid.

Next is Aisling, 3 years old, our charming preschooler. Aisling is a very happy little girl who loves to help around the house. She can always be counted on to "help" carry a laundry basket, or put away the clean silverware. When she's not busy working, Aisling enjoys pretending to be Barbie, Thumbalina, or one of the X-Men.

Diarmuid, Click to view more.

Our youngest is Diarmuid, 1 year old! Diarmuid is an active, happy toddler, who loves to run, laugh, and play. He also enjoys snuggling, and can often be found in the arms of mommy, daddy, or an older sibling.

(Wondering about the kids' names?)
